Chiropractic adjustment or manipulation is a manual procedure that utilizes the highly refined skills developed during Dr. Miller’s intensive years of chiropractic education. Dr. Miller typically uses his hands–but sometimes an instrument is needed–to manipulate all joints of the body, not just the spine, in order to restore or enhance joint function. Chiropractic adjustments help to realign the body, resolve joint dysfunction and inflammation, increase joint and muscle mobility and reduce the patients pain.

Dr. Miller likes the whole body approach and not just a focus on the area of pain, sometimes releasing an area away from the pain will cause the problem to go away. This is considered the referral pain pattern.Chiropractic manipulation is a highly controlled procedure that rarely causes discomfort. Our Doctors adapt the procedure to meet the specific needs of each patient. Patients often note positive changes in their symptoms immediately following treatment. The following are a list of techniques used by our Doctors: diversified, gonstead, thompson drops, activator, mckenzie method and cherettes extremity adjusting.

Why is there a popping sound when a joint is adjusted?
Adjustment (or manipulation) of a joint may result in the release of a gas bubble between the joints, which makes a popping sound. The same thing occurs when you “crack” your knuckles. The noise is caused by the change of pressure within the joint, which results in gas bubbles being released. There is usually minimal, if any, discomfort involved.

ART is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, joints and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles. This is why you will find ART providers at almost every sporting event, ex. ironmans, triathlons, marathons, crossfit events and most of pro sports.

What is an ART treatment like?
Every ART session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. Our Doctors will run through a series of upper or lower body muscle scans looking formuscle weakness and imbalances. They will then use their hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements. Each session lasts between 15-30 minutes and can have multi areas treated on the same visit.

These treatment protocols – over 500 specific moves – are unique to ART. They allow providers to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient. ART is not a cookie-cutter approach.

What is the history of Active Release Techniques?

ART has been developed, refined, and patented by P. Michael Leahy, DC, CCSP. Dr. Leahy noticed that his patients’ symptoms seemed to be related to changes in their soft tissue that could be felt by hand. By observing how muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves responded to different types of work, Dr. Leahy was able to consistently resolve over 90% of his patients’ problems. He now teaches and certifies health care providers all over the world to use ART.

Massage therapy is a vital part of our treatment here at Elite Performance Chiropractic. Dr. Miller believes that Chiropractic and Massage Therapy compliment each other well in helping to restore normal function throughout the body. Our massage therapists have more than 20 years of experience, varying from sports related injuries and major spinal dysfunctions.

Every movement your body makes everyday is propelled by your muscles and connective tissue. If there is any abnormal tension (ex. sitting at a computer all day) or muscle imbalance (ex. tight psoas and weak lower back muscle from sitting) itcan throw your entire body out of alignment. The massage therapy team at Elite Performance Chiropractic will relax and correct the tension in your muscles so our Doctors can provide you with a better and smoother adjustment.

Our licensed massage therapist are experienced in most massage techniques and have a lot of passion for helping others get better. We have a great atmosphere with a team approachat our office with our patient care, which is what really separates our massage therapistfrom others.

Dry Needling (also known as trigger point dry needling, and intramuscular manual therapy) is a technique used in the treatment of muscle pain and dysfunction.  The term “dry” needle refers to a needle without medication or injection inserted through the skin into the injured muscle.  Although they are similar, dry needling is not acupuncture.  Dry needling is a part of Western Medicine principles and is supported by research.

Dry needling is used to stimulate the body’s own pain relief system.  This idea originated from acupuncture, where needles have been used on the body for more than 2,000 years.  In 1938, Professor John Kellgren from Manchester University combined modern neurophysiology with acupuncture to find that pain relief was dependent on the stimulation of the needle itself, rather than a substance administered through it.

Fascial Distortion Model (FDM) was developed by Dr. Stephen Typaldes, DO. It is treatment in which virtually all soft tissue injuries, or musculoskeletal complaints, are reviewed through one or more of the six different types of alterations to the body’s connective tissues.

The patient’s verbal and physical descriptions, coupled with the mechanism of injury and relevant orthopedic tests, will lead the practitioner to the proper form of soft tissue treatment. Here at EPC we utilize FDM, stretching and rehabilitative exercises to strengthen the injured tissue and joint to prevent reoccurrence.

Kinesio® taping Method is a definitive rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion as well as providing extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting. Latex-free and wearable for days at a time, Kinesio® Tex Tape is safe for populations ranging from pediatric to geriatric and is very popular within the athletic community, and successfully treats a variety of orthopedic, neuromuscular, neurological and other medical conditions.

The Kinesio® Taping Method is a therapeutic taping technique not only offering your patient the support they are looking for, but also rehabilitating the affected condition as well. By targeting different receptors within the somatosensory system, Kinesio® Tex Tape alleviates pain and facilitates lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin. This lifting affect forms convolutions in the skin thus increasing interstitial space and allowing for a decrease in inflammation of the affected areas.

At Elite Performance Chiropractic we use both RockTape and KinesioTape for our patients. For more information click on the links below:

Mechanical traction is a device that is controlled through an on-board computer that controls the force and angle of disc distraction, which reduces the body’s natural tendencies to seize up and generate muscle spasm. This enhanced control allows the table to apply a traction force to the discs of the spinal column reducing intradiscal pressure, creating a hydrating environment for the disc and to relieve pressure on the nerves.

Traction is used to treat conditions that result in chronic backand neck pain such as disc bulge, disc herniation, sciatica and spinal stenosis. The total treatment time last between 10 and 15 min being pulledat intervals of 30 seconds and relaxed for 10 seconds.

At Elite Performance Chiropractic we have all of the cutting edge physical modalities and we take full advantage of them. Very rarely will your visit consist of an adjustment only.

The EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) is used for muscle training and/or pain management. This is one of the most common machines used in Chiropractic offices. The EMS will pulsate the muscles through electrodes causing contraction and nerve flowsimulating active exercise.EMS can help pain management by causing the bodies natural pain killers, endorphins and enkephalins, to be released which help aide in muscle relaxation and decrease in pain and inflammation.

Ultrasound is a wand like instrument that sends waves deep into the joint or muscle helping to break down scar tissue and helps to stimulate blood flow to the area to accelerate healing. Treatment time is typically 5 minutes. It is used to treat a variety of different injuries. A few examples are the following: back pain, tendonitis, muscle spasms, strains/sprains,rotator cuff syndrome, iliotibial band syndrome and plantar fasciitis.

Chiropractors may alternate between heat and ice therapy depending on the patients injury.Treatment time usually lasts between 10-15 minutes. Ice massage is used and is highly effective for injuries like tennis elbow and plantar fasciitis.

The NormaTech boots were founded by a physician bioengineer (MD & PhD), who recognized the powerful potential of external dynamic compression and its crucial role in healing and recovery. The concept is centered on using external compression to aid the body with its normal circulatory process. NormaTech has found a way to advance the compression process by using three distinctive massage techniques to help speed up the body’s normal recovery process. The first technique is the pulsing action. Instead of using static compression (squeezing) to transport fluid out of the limbs, the boots pulsing action more effectively mimics the muscle pump of the legs and arms, greatly enhancing the movement of fluid and metabolites out of the limbs after an intense workout. The second massage technique the NormaTech boots utilize is the gradient hold pressures to keep the body’s fluids from being forced down toward your feet by the pulsing action in proximal zones. Last is the distal release technique. This is where the boots will release pressure as quickly as possible to ensure that each portion of the limb gain maximal rest time without a significant pause between compression cycles.

Whether you’re fighting lower back pain, aching knees, or arthritic joints, stepping on the vibration plate will give you immediate and noticeable relief. Much like rubbing a bumped shin or shaking an injured finger, the exercise machine stimulates your motion nerves, blocking out pain, relieving built-up tension and soothing your joints as your brain focuses on motion, not pain.

Not only does the Vibration Plate decrease chronic pain, it also helps to regain muscle tone, strengthen bone density, boost your metabolism and much more. The therapeutic vibrations wake up muscles throughout your body, improving circulation and triggering myofascial release. This, in turn, enhances your body’s built-in ability to regenerate cells and repair itself – increasing motion, flexibility and comfort from the very first session.
